Taylor Swift, full Taylor Alison Swift. American singer/songwriter who's had great success with the tales that she shares about her childhood heartbreak. Swift developed an interest for music as a child and quickly progressed from playing in shows for children to making her debut in public. Swift began writing music in the teen years. She sang The Star-Spangled Banner for a Philadelphia 76ers NBA game. Taking her inspiration from country music artists such as Shania Twain and the Dixie Chicks (now the Chicks) Swift crafted original material that reflected her experiences of tween alienation. Swift's family relocated into Tennessee from Pennsylvania when she was 13, so that she could be able to spend longer pursuing country music labels in Nashville.
